    #665 Yotei-zan: Hiking Up + Riding Down

    By HikingOn | April 17, 2009

Yotei-zan is a mountain in the Niseko area. It’s not the one with the resorts, that’s Niseko Annupuri. If you want to ride on Yotei-zan you have to hike up. en.wikipedia.org English script thedailyenglishshow.blogspot.com 英文スクリプト+日本語訳+番組詳細tdes.blog120.fc2.com Show 665 Saturday 8 March The Daily English Show www.thedailyenglishshow.com

yet another bastion of nature to be exploited by tourism… these places should be protected from human interference, we have done enough harm already!

mountains where not made to be dug into, pocked, sawed, shoveled, banged or skied on…

when will we see the majesty and superiority of nature instead of molding everything to fit our puny needs, the damage done in this very boring three minute movie will last more than your life times.

      shame on you.

I’ve always wondered how mountains changed from yama -> san -> zan…

Such as fuji-yama, fuji-san, fuji-zan.. is it just a certain way of accent or what.. ? :o

“the damage done in this very boring three minute movie”
What damage was done in this movie?

This is possibly the dumbest comment I’ve ever read.

What other purpose is there of nature other than for us to enjoy and experience it? Who said we couldn’t ski on mountains? Where’s the damage being done? Unless we’re blowing up or building all over the mountains and forests, there isn’t any damage being done. There’s a way for nature and humanity to live in harmony and skiing on a mountain doesn’t disrupt that in any way.

      I agree with psychos:

maybe now its two skiers, but tommorow there will be hundreds. so then tress will be cut and streets made for the tourist to “enjoy nature” and the community will have another source of revenue.

good job guys… atleast i hope you had fun :)

This mountain is in a national park. There are no lifts, streets, vending machines etc … if you want to ride on it you have to walk up with snow shoes and ride down. As for ski resorts in Japan … a lot of them are going bankrupt because of a lack of tourists, so I don’t think you really need to worry about there being more and more tourists.
