    What is a good sized back pack for a 3-5 day hiking trip.. (in cubic inches)?

    I need a pack that can contain all the usuals for a multi day trip.. stove, tent, sleeping bag, water filtration, clothes… But not something so huge I wouldn't want to take a day trip… I am of medium build

      A 5 day trip that involves a stove, tent and sleeping bag is automatically going to need to be larger than something you're likely to use on a day trip.

      I can't help in cubic inches (what are they???) as backpacks tend to be measured in litres – at least in the UK, Europe & Australasia – but I think you need a 60-65 litre bag.

      Most day sacks are 25 litres and under.

      Go to a proper outdoor outfitters and get fitted for a backpack properly. They may even have stoves, sleeping bags etc so that you can get an idea of what you'll be able to fit in. Bear in mind that you will want food as well as clothes (and not too much hanging off the outside).
