Is it advisable to use winter hiking boots for hiking in the summer?

    By HikingOn | April 22, 2009

I have a pair of Hi-Tec brand winter hiking boots that are very comfortable, and pricey as well. http://www.hi-tec.com/us/46238-product-blackcomb_400_quik_zip-all.html
I moved out to the desert (Las Vegas) and found that it gets pretty hot during the summer. Can I still use my winter boots or should I buy some desert boots? In other words, will my feet heat up too much in the summer from all the insulation and whatnot?

I use my standard winter boots in summer and haven't experienced any problems. I am in England though, so I can't claim to have put them to a thorough test!
I wore my old boots in India when I was there and I found that as long as I wore breathable cotton socks I didn't need a specific desert boot.
You may want to check about your soles though, I have a pair that harden as the temperature drops, which means the opposite is true also. The last thing you want is to have your treads melt!
