Hiking the Candelaria Trail in Tenerife

A trip along part of the Candelaria pilgrims trail in Tenerife in October 2008. The trail originally took pilgrims from the northern town of La Orotava to La Candelaria on the other side of the mountains. I started from Arafo and climbed 5000ft to La Crucita where I had fantastic views of Teide, Spains highest mountain. From here I turned around and descended back to the start. As I descended, rains swept in on the mountaintops and followed me downhill but I managed to stay just ahead of it …
